On Friday, September 13, 2019, Co-Creation Hub held its first Cybersecurity Conference: The Security Demo. The event brought together businesses, civil society, students and information security enthusiasts from within and outside Lagos, to witness live cyber attacks and countermeasures by some of Nigeriaโs smartest ethical hackers.
The hackers demonstrated various attacks such as Advanced Phishing, Business Email Compromise, Using Network Forensics for Investigations, Embedding Malware within Documents, Hacking a Companyโs Server, Circumventing Paid Features on Commercial Platforms etc. CcHUB’s Digital Security unit also officially launched its Privacy Security game called ProfileMe, a fun game to help people manage their online footprints, which pits groups of 2 to 4 against each other with the aim of finding out as much information as possible on players in opposing groups.
The Conference also featured two-panel discussions; the first on the state of data protection in Nigeria, the other, a discussion on the need for businesses to create a hacker-friendly environment for ethical hacking and bug reporting in Nigeria. The attendees were also able to visit SafeOnlineโs experiential yellow โdanfoโ bus, a mobile tool for teaching online safety.
The conference was a success, with about 60 attendees, 7 hackers, 6 panellists and 3 volunteers participating in the all-day event and we are looking forward to hosting more people at next yearโs event.
