For African startups, expanding into other countries is more than just a growth strategy, itโs a vital step in ensuring sustainability, resilience, and the potential for long-term success.
Africa is one of the fastest-growing regions in the world, with expanding middle-class populations, increasing internet penetration, and rising youth population that is eager for technology-driven solutions.
Startups that can successfully enter multiple markets are better positioned to capitalize on these continental trends and diversify their revenue streams, reducing reliance on a single market and mitigating country-specific risks. Despite the potential gains there are relatively low levels of intra-African trade. This is the reality many African startups face, as they oftentimes struggle to access affordable finance for expansion and trade activities, which restricts their ability to engage in cross-border trade.
Therefore organizations should be actively creating the opportunities, networks and expertise that would allow African startups to strengthen their resilience and potential for cross border expansion. The Co-creation HUB (CcHUB) does just that by investing in the power of collaboration to co-create sustainable solutions that drive change through innovation, this investment has led to their participation in ENRICH in Africa (EiA) program, an initiative designed to bring incubators and accelerators from Europe and Africa into closer cooperation.
Through the programโs curated four-month journey, startups not only learnt about the intricacies of the European Union (EU) market but also received tailored mentorship and local market expertise, preparing them for global growth. CcHUB played a pivotal role in executing this vision, particularly in its design and facilitation of the learning expeditions to Nigeria and Rwanda.
The learning expeditions served as immersive experiences where African and European entrepreneurs dove deep into new markets, gaining first hand insights into local ecosystems. In Nigeria, for instance, the program connected other African startups to one of Africaโs largest tech hubs, Lagos, known for its vibrant startup scene. These expeditions facilitated networking with local investors, innovators, and regulators, equipping entrepreneurs with the tools to navigate complex business environmentsโ.
By leveraging its vast network and expertise, CcHUB successfully guided the startups through the complexities of cross-border expansion, offering them not only the resources to grow but also critical connections to help them foster long-term international partnerships.

Expanding on their portfolio of breaking down barriers that typically limit African startups to their national contexts. CcHUB introduces the ‘Letโs Build Africa!’ initiative which is a comprehensive market entry program designed to empower African startups to expand across the continent. This initiative aims to remove some of the barriers to market expansion and represents a significant step toward fostering economic integration and growth across African markets.
CcHUB is also committed to creating inclusive spaces where startups can tap into a diverse pan-African expertise and has opened hubs across Africa such as the Design Lab in Rwanda, CcHUB Namibia, and iHub in Kenya, which is now part of the CcHUB network, with an aim of strategically positioning Africa as a thriving center for innovation and entrepreneurship.
