As a way of celebrating the role of education in bringing about global peace and sustainable development, the 24th of January has been declared International Day of Education by the United Nations. In line with the theme of the celebration this year; Changing Course, Transforming Education, our aim at re:learn by CcHUB is to put the spotlight on the transformations we have been able to facilitate as an educational practice to promote equity, access and sustainability to Education in Africa.
We are committed to improving education by leveraging technology to create engaging content and introducing innovative teaching methods to teachers with the aim of improving the learning outcomes of the students. We are a pipeline for designing and implementing various projects as an organisation and in collaboration with other partnering institutions.
The EdTech Ecosystems in both Nigeria and Kenya, is home to in-service and pre-service teachers, providing them with access to the Teachers’ Lounge where they receive free continuous professional development (CPD) that helps them meet the demands of teaching and learning in the 21st Century. We believe that teachers have a great influence on students and thus should be equipped with the skills necessary to improve the learning outcomes of learners.
Capturing the impact of the Teachers’ Lounge, we are currently working with the Lagos State Ministry of Education to Transform STEM Education in Lagos State. With 20 schools participating in the pilot programme, the aim of this project is to establish a community of practice for science teachers known as STEM Cells, through which they will receive training and guidance on the use of inquiry-based learning as an innovative teaching method and Digital Labs to enhance science education.
In addressing the consequences of the Covid19 pandemic on education, we have been involved with closing the digital divide in Nigeria. In partnership with Meta, Junior Achievement Nigeria, and NerdzFactory, we provide school leaders, teachers, learners, parents and youths with training on Digital Literacy and Online Safety. Through the Safe Online with Meta Digital Literacy programme, we have been able to train over 40,000 Nigerians since 2020.
Leveraging the media to facilitate critical futuristic conversations on sustainable ways we can use technology for teaching and learning, we manage the EdTech Mondays program in partnership with Mastercard Foundation. EdTech Mondays has been designed as a platform where we bring together key policymakers, Ed-tech entrepreneurs, teachers, and parents to share their insights on education technology in Nigeria.
Asides from organising projects and events to celebrate global days focused on one or more aspects of education, we also have special education-themed celebrations. One of such is the EdTech Festival which has been designed to promote the application of technology to education in an atmosphere of dialogue, fun and hands-on experience with various EdTech Products we have at CcHUB and iHub EdTech Ecosystems in Nigeria and Kenya respectively.
The CcHUB EdTech Center of Excellence (CoE) at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) hosts a community of pre-service teachers and EdTech Enthusiasts. With a culture of innovation, collaboration and human-centred design, the EdTech CoE is grooming a pool of next-generation educators, EdTech Practitioners and instructional designers who will promote sustainable education in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
As we celebrate the International Day of Education, we will not fail to restate our commitment to improve STEM education by leveraging technology to curate quality content, promote inquiry-based learning and provide teachers with innovative continuous professional development programmes.
