Literacy Day Spelling Bee

CcHUBโ€™s Education Practice in partnership with eLimu – the leading digital educational content provider in East Africa – is excited to announce the CcHUB/iHub Spelling Bee organised as part of the International Literacy Day Celebrations this year. The global theme for this yearโ€™s celebration is โ€œLiteracy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divideโ€.ย

Learning in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the importance of leveraging technology to improve access to learning resources for learners. Learners around the world are taking advantage of resources available to them on various sites and platforms and more than ever, taking charge of their learning. However, with all of these, there remains a large community of learners who are unable to utilise the digital learning opportunities available due to various constraints such as access to digital devices, the cost of the internet and low digital literacy skills.

This year as we celebrate international literacy day and encourage literacy for a human-centred recovery, we aim to beam the spotlight on learning resources that resonate with the theme for the celebration and promote human-centred learning.

The Literacy App built by the digital learning product arm of CcHUB, eLimu, is an App that features interactive animations that improves reading skills in young learners through storytelling, tests of comprehension and the use of phonics. It offers learners access to easy-to-use interfaces on any digital device, and digital literacy skills.

As an International Literacy Day special, a Spelling Bee for young learners aged 5 – 7 years focuses on vocabularies from spotlight stories on the eLimu Literacy App. The journey through the selected stories, read-yourself sessions, and practice exercises offer participants a diversity of new words in a fun and educational way.

As a participant in the spelling bee, each competitor stands a chance to win points that could earn them a lot of amazing prizes. It promises to be an educational, interactive, and fun session.
