We are excited to announce the first edition of the Creative Business Series by the Creative Economy Practice at CcHUB. The Series aims to stimulate innovation in the African Creative Economy in order to catalyze further growth in the sector and capture maximum value for African creatives and other sector players.
These will be done through the Creative Seminar Series and other activities such as our Mentoring series, CreaTech Accelerator and other activities that will be unveiled soon.
Why is the Creative Business Series important for the sector?
According to UN estimates, the creative economy industries generate annual revenues of $2.25 trillion and account for 30 million jobs worldwide. It has been estimated that Africa contributes less than 1% to a global creative economy valued at as much as $2.2 trillion.
This rapidly growing sector can boost economies and drive inclusive socio-economic development. Its significant contribution of three per cent of the global gross domestic product (GDP) highlights the economic potential of creative industries as a source of growth and job creation (EY, 2015). In Nigeria alone, creative industries contributed approximately US $18 billion to GDP (World Bank 2020).
The Creative Business Series will be held as a seminar-style event curated for young creative entrepreneurs aged 18 – 40 years looking to improve their business skills. They will also get a chance to network and collaborate with other creatives outside their immediate network and access opportunities in the African Creative Industry.
The maiden event will go live on the 10th of March 2022 with this lineup of speakers:
- Bosun Tijani – CEO, Co-Creation Hub
- Rimini Makama – Director, Market Expansion – Xbox Cloud Gaming (Project xCloud), Microsoft
The topic of discussion: How Innovation and Technology Application can Enhance the African Creative Economy.
Creative Business Series 1.0 will be hosted and facilitated by Ojoma Ochai, the Managing Partner of the Creative Economy Practice.
The event will bring together creative entrepreneurs, software developers, investors, SMEs, corporates, and industry experts across multiple sectors.
