On June 28, 2012, The Honourable Minister of Communication Technology, Omobola Johnson met reps of 12 technology incubators and business support organisations at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Lagos.
Upon arrival, the Honourable Minister got an introduction to the work of CcHub and met 5 of the technology projects being pre-incubated in the space.
The purpose of the meeting with the technology incubators and business support organisations was to intimate them on the Ministry’s vision and plans to stimulate software development in Nigeria through incubation centers. The Ministry plans to pilot the scheme with 2 incubation centre to be launched in Lagos and Tinapa, Calabar and will be opening bidding for managers of the centre.
The meeting also provided the opportunity to discuss current challenges with incubating software companies in Nigeria and the role the Minstry can play as a catalyst of the process. The main focus of discussions at the meeting included how to build talent for the sector, gathering and managing funding, how to build teams to drive start-ups and how to enable research that will support the growth of the sector.
The day for the meeting also happened to be the Honourable Minster’s birthday and the attendees and the general CcHub community joined in wishing her a happy birthday.
